Oceania is a geographic region that includes Australasia, Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia. Many people consider Australia to be the seventh continent, but using Australia as a seventh continent ends up omitting many small ocean countries from having an official continent. By adding Oceania and dropping Australia, we are able to include all countries in the world into seven continents which makes geography easier for everyone. Oceania spans the eastern and western hemispheres and has a land area of 8,525,989 square kilometres and a population of 42 million. Situated in the southeast of the Asia-Pacific region, Oceania, when compared to continental regions, is the smallest in land area and the second smallest in population after Antarctica.
