The New Gods is an 11 issue comic book series, its numbering continues in Return of the New Gods which runs from issue # 12 to # 19.
A continuation of the original New Gods series (5 years later), the story began in First Issue Special #13.
The New Gods series and its original numbering was revived after a 5 year break, with a story written by Gerry Conway and drawn by Don Newton. Conway and Newton balanced Jack Kirby's bombastic Fourth World opus about the adventures of the New Gods with more traditional comic book anguish. Fan favorites Lightray, Metron and Orion were joined by new allies like Jezebelle as the New Gods and Darkseid raced to locate six Earth people, each believed to possess portions of the sought after Anti-Life equation. The quest lasted eight issues before the series was cancelled as part of the DC Implosion.
