1001 Custom and Rod Ideas was published in the large format style by Argus Publishing Corporation, the same organization behind Popular Hot Rodding and Popular Customs. It featured hot rods and customs.
It started as a quarterly issue in 1967, then went to monthly in June, 1975. This lasted until early 1977 when publishing was a bit sporadic. In 1978, the magazine went back to quarterly, and in 1980 it became an annual publication. Publication ceased after the 1983 annual.
A total of 73 issues were printed from Spring 1967 through to the last annual publication in 1983.
