The Eiffel Tower, the tallest building in Paris and the fifth tallest building in France, is named after its designer Gustave Eiffel, a noted bridge engineer. The structure was built between 1887 and 1889 as the entrance arch to the Exposition Universelle, a World's Fair which marked the centennial celebration of the French Revolution. |
